Postpartum Depression Screening and Support
Many women experience the “baby blues,” but if sadness or anxiety lasts more than 2 weeks, it may be postpartum depression. About 1 in 10 mothers are affected.
Symptoms include: Persistent sadness, trouble bonding, severe fatigue, loss of interest, or thoughts of self-harm.
Treatment options: Counseling, support groups, and sometimes antidepressant medication (many are safe in breastfeeding). Getting enough rest, eating well, and asking for support from family and friends also help. Always seek medical help if you have thoughts of harming yourself or your baby.
