Breastfeeding and Lactation Support
Breastfeeding provides complete nutrition, antibodies, and bonding for your baby. The first milk, colostrum, is especially rich in protection. Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for the first 6 months, with continued breastfeeding up to 2 years and beyond.
- Benefits for the baby: Fewer infections, stronger immunity, lower risk of obesity and diabetes, and closer bonding.
- Benefits for the mother:Faster weight loss, less bleeding, reduced cancer risk, and cost savings.
Tips for success:
- Try different positions (cradle, football, side-lying) for comfort
- Ensure a good latch to prevent sore nipples
- Stay hydrated and feed often to maintain milk supply
- Pump and store milk safely if needed
Breastfeeding may not be safe in rare cases (such as HIV, certain medications, or when the baby has galactosemia). Your doctor will guide you if alternatives are needed.
